2026 Lexus IS Sedan Gets A Glow Up, Refreshed And Refined Look Inside and Out

Since its introduction in 1999, the Lexus IS has been a cornerstone of the brand’s pursuit of driving enjoyment. Conceived as a compact rear-wheel-drive sports sedan, the IS quickly earned recognition for its dynamic performance and bold design, becoming a true expression of the Lexus driving philosophy. More than 1.3 million units have been sold across 40 countries, a testament to the model’s enduring appeal over the past 25 years. Its evolution has been shaped by rigorous development and testing, with each generation refined to embody the Lexus Driving Signature.

For 2026, the IS arrives with a significant update that highlights both heritage and innovation. A redesigned exterior sharpens the sedan’s athletic stance, while the cabin receives a restyled instrument panel, center console, and updated multimedia system. Together, these changes advance Lexus’s goal of creating a car that feels like a seamless extension of the driver. Sales of the new IS are scheduled to begin in early 2026.

The IS 350 remains the single variant, available in two grades: F SPORT Design and F SPORT. Development centered on refining both performance and design, ensuring the IS continues to deliver the rewarding driving experience that has long defined it. The Lexus Driving Signature remains central to this mission, emphasizing precise control, confident handling, and a refined ride quality developed through exacting evaluation on roads and test tracks around the world.

Visually, the 2026 IS communicates a stronger presence with a new front design that emphasizes its low center of gravity and wide stance. F SPORT models take this further with an available rear spoiler to improve aerodynamics and optional red brake calipers that underscore the car’s performance character. Both grades feature new 19-inch lightweight aluminum wheels. Seven exterior colors will be offered, including a new shade called Wind, a light gray infused with metallic highlights designed to convey motion even at rest.

Inside, the IS balances functionality with craftsmanship. The Lexus Interface screen now spans 12.3 inches, paired with an equally large digital instrument cluster directly in the driver’s line of sight. A new “Forged Bamboo” trim creates a distinctive shading effect across the console, while an exclusive Radiant Red interior option for F SPORT models lends a dramatic, performance-inspired atmosphere. The cabin also offers advanced convenience features such as strategically placed USB Type-C ports for front and rear passengers and a redesigned wireless charging pad.

Audio has not been overlooked. A 10-speaker Lexus Premium Sound system comes standard, while a 17-speaker Mark Levinson upgrade remains available for those who want an even more immersive experience.

Power continues to come from a 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 311 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, paired with either rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic or all-wheel drive with a six-speed automatic. Performance figures will be released closer to launch, but the development focus has been on steering satisfaction and vehicle response. Updates to the electric power steering and suspension systems deliver a more linear, intuitive feel across diverse conditions, ensuring that acceleration, braking, and cornering flow together naturally.
