Midnight Purple Nissan GT-R T-Spec Gets A Proper Detail At Bulletproof Auto Spa

We cover a lot of car builds on our website, but every once in a while, a detailing project lands in our feed that genuinely stops us dead in our tracks. This is one of them. A Midnight Purple Nissan GT-R T-Spec, treated to a full protection package by the team at Bulletproof Auto Spa in Los Angeles, and the result is exactly what a car this rare and this significant deserves. This is not just a detail job. It is a statement about what proper care for a legendary machine actually looks like.

Why This Car Demands This Level of Attention

The GT-R R35 has been in production since 2007 and has earned every bit of its Godzilla reputation. The T-Spec sits above the standard Premium trim and below the full NISMO, but in terms of collectibility, it arguably outranks them both. Nissan produced it in extremely limited numbers, offered it in only two exclusive heritage colors, and packed it with NISMO-derived hardware, including Brembo carbon ceramic brakes and gold-painted RAYS forged wheels. Under the hood, the hand-assembled 3.8-liter twin-turbo VR38DETT V6 produces 565 horsepower and 467 lb-ft of torque, good for a 0-60 time of around 2.7 seconds. These are numbers that still embarrass cars costing three times the price.

Critically, Nissan has no confirmed replacement for the R35 in development. When production ends, it ends. That makes every well-preserved T-Spec more valuable over time, and a daily-driven example without proper paint protection is a car quietly losing money every time it leaves the garage. This particular owner understood that, which is why it ended up at Bulletproof Auto Spa.

Full Vehicle XPEL Ultimate Plus PPF

The centerpiece of this build is a complete full-body XPEL Ultimate Plus Paint Protection Film (PPF) installation covering every panel from front to rear. The front bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors, A-pillars, rocker panels, door edges, door cups, rear quarters, and trunk all received full coverage. No partial front-end wrap, no high-impact-only approach. The whole car.

That decision makes complete sense on a Midnight Purple T-Spec. The finish is a deep tri-coat that shifts dramatically with different lighting conditions, from near-black in shade to a rich, saturated purple in direct sunlight. It is a spectacular paint to look at and one of the hardest to repair correctly. The layered nature of the tri-coat means that any chip or rock strike requires, at a minimum, a full-panel respray to achieve an acceptable color match. A single unprotected stone on the motorway is an expensive problem. XPEL Ultimate Plus eliminates that risk across the entire car.

The film itself is a self-healing thermoplastic urethane that absorbs surface impacts and returns to its original state with heat exposure, without altering the visual clarity or color depth of the paint beneath it. On a finish this complex, that optical transparency is everything. Bulletproof’s certified technicians use precision plotter-cut patterns and wet-install techniques to ensure clean edges and seamless transitions around the GT-R’s aggressive body lines and sculpted rear quarters. Every panel is checked under high-intensity lighting before sign-off. No lifting edges, no trapped contamination, no tunneling.

XPEL Prime XR Plus Nano-Ceramic Window Tint

Alongside the PPF, Bulletproof applied XPEL Prime XR Plus nano-ceramic window tint across all glass. For a Los Angeles-based car, this is not a cosmetic choice; it is a functional necessity. Prime XR Plus uses true nano-ceramic technology to reject up to 98 percent of infrared heat and block over 99 percent of UV radiation, all without any metallic layers that could interfere with the GT-R’s GPS, mobile connectivity, or onboard electronics.

Southern California sun loads are punishing. Alcantara fades, plastics degrade, and cabin temperatures spike within minutes of parking without adequate solar protection. Prime XR Plus addresses all of that while maintaining exceptional optical clarity, something cheaper dyed films cannot claim over time. The tint also sits beautifully against the Midnight Purple paint, darkening the glass in a way that feels deliberate and cohesive rather than tacked on.

AL13 C005R Three-Piece Forged Wheels: Built for This Car Specifically

The build does not stop at protection. Bulletproof fitted a set of AL13 C005R three-piece forged wheels, and the story behind them matters as much as how they look. AL13 is an American manufacturer based in Brea, California, producing every wheel in-house using advanced CNC machining and aerospace-grade 6061-T6 aluminum with titanium hardware. There are no off-the-shelf AL13 wheels. Every set is built to order, spec’d to the exact vehicle, and backed by a lifetime structural warranty. For this GT-R T-Spec, the fitment, offset, and finish were dialed in specifically around the R35’s dimensions and the Midnight Purple paint.

The result is a clean Satin Black five-spoke face with Gloss Black lips, showcasing 20×9.5 front and 20×11 rear sizes, a staggered setup that fills the T-Spec’s wide-body fender arches with real presence. The understated finish deliberately works against the deep, color-shifting paint, letting the Midnight Purple do the talking while the wheels frame the yellow Nissan Brembo carbon-ceramic calipers and the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber behind them.

Functionally, the C005R earns its place on a car this capable. The three-piece construction combines a forged center face, a forged inner barrel, and a forged outer barrel, assembled with stainless hardware and a silicone bead seal. AL13 also mills the back side of each wheel to reduce unsprung mass, a detail that directly sharpens cornering response, braking performance, and acceleration. On a GT-R, where the ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system is constantly reading and redistributing torque between axles, lighter rotating mass means faster system response at every input. These are not cosmetic upgrades dressed up in performance language. They are purpose-built pieces that make the car measurably better to drive.

The Standard That Rare Cars Should Be Held To

Detailing at this level is an art form. It requires knowledge of specific paint chemistry, precision film cutting, and the patience to do every panel correctly rather than quickly. Bulletproof Auto Spa has built its reputation in Los Angeles doing exactly this kind of work on exactly this kind of car, and this GT-R T-Spec is one of the cleaner examples of what a proper protection build looks like from start to finish.

Consider what the GT-R R35 has achieved over its lifetime. Nissan pulled the wraps off this car at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, and nearly two decades later, it is still a legitimate performance benchmark. The twin-turbo VR38DETT still embarrasses newer, more expensive machinery off the line. The all-wheel-drive system is still more sophisticated than most rivals can match. The chassis still communicates in a way that modern electronic safety nets have largely engineered out of the segment. Eighteen years in production with no full redesign, just relentless refinement, and it is still a car that demands respect on any road in any country. That is not a common achievement. That is a legacy.

And that legacy is exactly why the T-Spec, particularly in Midnight Purple, is one of the most compelling collector purchases a petrolhead can make right now. No successor is confirmed. Production is winding down. When the R35 ends, it ends, and there is nothing waiting in Nissan’s pipeline to replace what it represented. T-Spec examples in heritage colors are already among the most sought-after variants in the entire R35 run, and that trajectory only moves in one direction as the supply of new examples dries up. A well-preserved, properly protected T-Spec is not just a spectacular car to drive daily. It is a future-proof asset that rewards the owner who treated it right from day one.

This owner did exactly that, and Bulletproof delivered the result it deserved. If you want to see every detail of the finished build-up close, scroll down to the full media gallery below.
