World Premiere: 2019 ALPINA XD3
For those that would definitely love to see a diesel powered BMW X3 M, Alpina has the answer. Today, the German in-house tuner for BMW revealed the 2019 ALPINA XD3, a powerful and luxurious SAV (Sport Activity Vehicle) that won’t leave anybody restrained.
The ALPINA XD3 is powered by a state-of-the-art BMW 3.0-liter straight-six engine with four turbochargers and common-rail high-pressure direct injection. The engine delivers 388 horsepower (285 kW) over an impressively wide bandwidth ranging from 4000 to 5000 rpm and delivers a maximum torque of 770 Nm. In turn, this allows the ALPIN XD3 to sprint from 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in just 4.6 seconds.
Compare that to the X3 M40i’s 355 horsepower and 369 lb-ft, and the acceleration time seems a bit understated; after all, the BMW M40i will do the 0-62mpoh (0-100km/h) sprint in 4.6 seconds as well – but, with a lot less torque, making us believe ALPINA is deliberately stating a slower factory time. On the ALPINA XD3, the Driving Experience Control switch allows the driver to change between different vehicle set-ups at the push of a button – from Sport+ through to Comfort+ – making every driving situation a familiar one for the driver.
Performance of the ALPINA XD3 is accentuated by a sporty all-wheel drive transmission, putting the engine’s power to all four wheels. Based on the intelligent BMW xDrive system and featuring an ALPINA specific torque distribution, it guarantees maximum traction, neutral driving dynamics and high levels of safety.
ALPINA sport suspension with electronically adjustable dampers together with an active rear limited slip differential ensures superior handling and dynamics without compromising ride comfort. Combine that with a comfy looking luxury interior – something ALPINA does better than even BMW in a lot of ways – and you’ve got a luxury high-performance machine that won’t burden your fuel bill a lot, delivers impressive performance, looks perfect and gets you places rather fast.
The vehicle is set to have its live debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Until then, feast your eyes on the detailed media gallery and launch video of the ALPINA XD3 right below.
