For many, the lap time on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife is the most notable figure for any sports car out there. The legendary track is the perfect testing ground and the gauntled of supercar engineering, testing and driving. This is where many car manufacturers develop & test their vehicles, prior to being released to the markets worldwide and thus giving them the perfectly balanced acceleration & cornering performance.
It’s no wonder that the Mercedes-AMG GT R was extensively tested there, subsequently posting a record time.
Just before winter, the Mercedes-AMG GT R did another few runs at the Nürburgring Nordschleife – and the results are amazing. The all-new new Mercedes-AMG GT R has set the fastest-ever lap time on the Nürburgring Nordschleife of 7:10.9 in a test drive independently conducted by the magazine “sport auto, thus setting the bar high, as the car drove faster through the “Green Hell” than any other road-going sports car ever tested by the motoring magazine. With the Mercedes-AMG GT R now the fastest road-going sports car ever tested, the 577 hp “Beast of the Green Hell” has more than lived up to its name.
For many, the lap time on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife is the pinnacle of supercar engineering, testing and driving. This is the reason that many car manufacturers develop & test their vehicles, prior to public release and this way give their would-be owners the perfectly balanced vehicles that are more than capable of attacking a bevvy of slow, fast and other corners alongside with great straight acceleration as well.
“With the new AMG GT R, we have reached the next level of driving performance. This road-going sports car with motor-racing genes and innovative technical solutions offers an ultimate driving experience that allows people to feel our motorsport origins in every fiber. It combines the driving dynamics of our AMG GT3 racing car with the everyday practicality of the AMG GT. Those with gasoline in their veins will be thrilled by the radical longitudinal and lateral acceleration, the precise turn-in and the sensational grip. We have modified all performance-relevant components and linked them together intelligently for maximum driving dynamics,” says Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
The Mercedes-AMG GT R comes with such exceptional driving dynamics come courtesy of the front mid- engine layout with transaxle, a 577 hp 4.0L V8 biturbo engine, extensively modified suspension, sophisticated aerodynamics, active rear-axle steering, bespoke tires and intelligent lightweight design. The vehicle is able to sprint from 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds, while reaching a top speed of 318km/h.
Alongside weight reduction, aerodynamic improvements, a powerful engine and the sheer speed through the corners, this is a perfect vehicle for the Nürburgring Nordschleife overall. The tested track times, they are not really surprising.
