2025 Mercedes-Benz G580: Electrifying the Icon

Nobody expected an electric Mercedes-Benz G580, an electric one even less. Boasting an impressive 579 hp and 1164 NM of torque, this is the AT-AT of the car world, an all-terrain vehicle with a heritage steeped in adventure; this all-electric G-Class is ready to carve new paths with zero emissions and zero compromises.

Mercedes-Benz G580: The New King of Luxury Off-Roading

Mercedes-Benz has masterfully reimagined its storied off-road champion, the G-Class, by electrifying it into the G580, a synthesis of legendary durability and avant-garde electric vehicle (EV) technology. While you don’t imagine a G-class as electric, it’s actually amazing that we finally have a real off-road vehicle that’s sustainable and lives in balance with nature. Still, it’s the same old G-class we used to love, and while it’s electric, the Mercedes-Benz G580 keeps and improves on its predecessors’ design and capabilities.

The G 580’s ladder frame-integrated electric powertrain has four separately regulated electric motors. Each motor, placed near the wheels to improve weight distribution and decrease mechanical complexity, delivers 145 horsepower, totaling 579 horsepower and 1164 NM (859 lb-ft) of torque. This setup allows electric vehicles to produce immediate torque, which boosts off-road and on-road performance.

A shiftable two-speed gearbox with LOW RANGE gear reduction manages the motors and a clever all-wheel-drive system for tough off-road conditions. This technology and the torque vectoring system that dynamically distributes power to individual wheels improve the vehicle’s agility and responsiveness across difficult terrain and steep grades.

The Mercedes-Benz G580’s 116-kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery offers steady power. Battery placement in the ladder frame reduces the vehicle’s center of gravity, improving stability and handling. The battery is protected from weather and off-road debris by a torsion-resistant housing.

As for the Mercedes-Benz G580 underbody protection is constructed of carbon and other durable materials to protect the battery and other essential components. This layer protects the vehicle from physical damage and bolsters its structure.

Advanced features in the G580 enable off-roading on almost any terrain. G-TURN and G-STEERING employ each wheel’s independent control to complete tight turns and spin the vehicle 360 degrees on its axis, which is beneficial in narrow trails or difficult maneuvering scenarios.

The clever off-road crawl option allows gradual, controlled ascents and descents, letting the driver focus on driving rather than throttle management. Adaptive adjustable dampers improve ride comfort and stability on uneven roads.

Most Comfortable Off-Roader on The Market

The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology’s interior is a masterpiece of elegance, functionality, and innovative technology, intended to delight drivers and passengers. Mercedes-Benz prioritizes comfort, luxury, and high-tech conveniences in the cabin, making it as remarkable as its performance.

The G 580 cabin is a gem of materials and craftsmanship. Standard soft-touch Nappa leather upholstery covers the seats, dashboard, and door panels, adding luxury. Elegant wood or carbon fiber trimmings on the dashboard, center console, and doors match the leather, bringing refinement and modernity to the interior.

Precision stitching, tactile materials, and an ergonomic arrangement that puts every function within reach of the driver show attention to detail. The cabin has 64 color choices for ambient lighting, adding to its luxury and letting passengers pick the mood.

The Mercedes-Benz G580’s seats are ergonomic and luxurious. Power-adjustable front seats with memory settings, heating, ventilation, and massage options for maximum comfort during the trip. Long-distance travel is ideal for the big back seats’ legroom and support.

A True G-class Classic

Let’s be honest: all G-Class’s exterior looks almost the same, but for some strange reason, every generation looks better and better. It’s a strange effect that makes this model magical, and boy, this one looks fantastic

The design of the Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology respects and retains the historical visual identity of the G-Class while strategically incorporating modern aerodynamic principles. Yes, this box is aerodynamic, which is a must for all EVs.

A-pillars have been carefully shaped to boost aerodynamics on the Mercedes-Benz G580. As the vehicle travels, these pillars distribute airflow smoothly over the sides, reducing wind noise and resistance. This refinement boosts energy efficiency, improving electric powertrain range and performance.

Additionally, the G 580’s rear wheel arches include revolutionary air curtains. Custom vents regulate airflow around wheel wells, minimizing aerodynamic drag. Airflow through these curtains and around the wheels reduces turbulence and resistance, making the ride smoother and more energy-efficient.

The G 580 has further aerodynamic features. The roof spoiler lip and redesigned underbody trim reduce lift and drag at high speeds. These characteristics steady the car, improving handling and energy usage, which is essential for electric powertrain efficiency.

Electric cars require higher economy, so the vehicle’s bodywork has been refined to balance its signature style. Optimizing external surfaces and strategically placing aerodynamic aids to smooth airflow over the vehicle body reduces environmental impact and improves driving enjoyment.

The slightly higher hood is one of the Mercedes-Benz G580’s biggest upgrades. This modification gives the car a bold, muscular look and, more importantly, is useful. It fits the electric powertrain, including inverters and cooling systems for high-performance electric motors. These components are smoothly incorporated without sacrificing the vehicle’s traditional silhouette with this design update.

The Infotainment of The Future

The Mercedes-Benz G580’s MBUX system relies on two 12.3-inch high-resolution monitors with complementing functions. In front of the driver, the first display is a digital instrument cluster that displays speed, charge level, energy usage, and comprehensive maps and navigation assistance. This monitor may display off-road vehicle data, including inclination, descent metrics, and differential lock status according to the driver’s choices.

Multimedia, navigation, and car settings dominate the second dashboard panel. The driver and front passenger may operate the entertainment system, climate settings, and vehicle options with a swipe or tap on its touchscreen.

MBUX has an easy-to-use interface to reduce driver distraction. The center display and steering wheel include touch control, allowing drivers to modify settings without taking their hands off the wheel. By saying “Hey Mercedes,” passengers may activate several functionalities, improving the user experience. This voice command technology can understand and process climate control and navigation orders without the driver having to look away.

The Mercedes-Benz G580 MBUX integrates smoothly with digital devices and platforms. The vehicle’s center touchscreen displays applications, music, and communications from smartphones via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, standard features. Wireless charging pads further this integration by powering gadgets without cords.

Advanced navigation features, including real-time traffic updates and route optimization, help drivers avoid congestion and save time. Electric intelligence navigation calculates the best route based on battery condition, charging station locations, and energy usage profiles, maximizing the vehicle’s electric range.
